Tencent Merges LLM and Multimodal Departments, Yao Shunyu Takes Charge of AI
Tencent internally announced the merger of its Large Language Model Department and Multimodal Department into a Foundation Model Department, led by Chief AI Scientist Yao Shunyu. Yao Shunyu arrived last December and centralized power within 7 months, from dismantling and merging AI Lab into Hunyuan to integrating multimodal capabilities. The previously released Hy3 model (295B total parameters / 21B activated parameters) has matched flagship models with 2-5 times the parameters, improving internal WorkBuddy task success rate from 72% to 90% while reducing time consumption by 34%.
